Let's Talk Breasts: Best Sports Bras to Keep Your Girls from Floppin'

>> Thursday, July 9, 2009

On Baywatch, Pamela Anderson was often seen running down the beach in her little one piece swimsuit with her size thirty-something, quadruple-letter breasts bouncing around without so much as a grimace of pain on her face--WHO WERE THEY (the creators of BW) KIDDING?

I don't care how small a woman's frame is--if she has huge knockers, she will almost assuredly suffer pain during exercise if she cannot find a good sports bra.

You would think that a 39-year old woman with gargantuan boobs would have found a quality sports bra to "keep 'em from floppin'" by now, but I haven't. To be honest, I don't have the time or financial means to keep purchasing one bra after another to find the right one.

Typically, every workout bra I've tried (can't remember the brands) does well for about a month and then it begins resembling a pathetic little slingshot toy trying its best to hold and shoot off a one ton boulder. I do the best I can for awhile once that happens but now I'm to the point of needing a new one. My current Sports Boulder Holder is fine for strength training and light walks, but not for running, jogging, jumping jacks, or jumping rope--my poor girls and shoulders are hurting.

That said, any advice from other busty gals who exercise and have found a great sports bra that lasts would be greatly appreciated!

Take it from one who doesn't necessarily need a sports bra when she exercises, but flops nontheless...I think the reason PA never grimaced in pain is because hers are a little less on the side of genuine! But Target does have a great line of sports bras...inexpensive and in all sizes, and best of all, they do the trick.

Oh, I so feel your pain! After my son was born I was so-called "blessed" with 38 double-Ds, so finding comfy and supportive bras, sports or otherwise, is always a challenge. Like Melissa B. I have had pretty good luck at Target. The one I'm wearing now was purchased there, and is manufactured by 'Champion'. I've also heard the Lane Bryant has decent sports bras for us well-endowed ladies, though I've never tried them. I really love your blog, I feel like it really speaks to me as I'm also embarking on a lifestyle change to shed pounds, get healthier and stronger. Keep up the good work, and it was very nice to meet you via SITS!

Thank you ladies! It looks like Target is the place to go. :-)

Good Morning, Thanks for your comment on my post what a great suggestion:)

Now, I never had breast until I had kids, why is that? Anywho, I have never found any sports bra to really hold um down. I do actually double up. I put up my bra, then a sports bra, then my tight workout shirt:) That's about 3 tight things holding them down:) It works for the most part:)

Girl I used to comment about how I couldn't do any sort of excersise without getting a couple of black eyes and a thrown out back. Seriously, they(breast) are one of my best assets but man do they get in the way. I have one good sports bra that I wear and I think I got it from Walmart but like you after a while it stretchs out. I guess I'll go look at Target too.

I know that Fat is an "F" word, but so is exercise! My girls were forever ruined after nursing one child...I can not imagine nursing 18 like the Dugger's mom! OMG I hate bras...wear one every day all the time UNTIL I come home and then it is off with the bra, off with the clothes and on with the pjs!!! woo hoo

I used to work for a bra manufacturer and I can tell you, most women do not wear the proper sized bra. NOTHING should be outside of the bra under your arms...the underwire should not cut under the girls...all of this because you need good circulation! We just can not stress that one enough. Don't let them hang!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Love your blog. Visiting for the first time from SITS. Talk to you tomorrow!

I'm with the Redhead Riter, I dislike bras and mine also comes off as soon as possible. Fortunately, I'm so small you can hardly tell if I have one on or not anyway!

Momsweb is funny. Well I'm not small and these things be bouncing all over the face hitting myself in the eye. I thought about trying to tape them down, but then there wasn't enough tape to handle the business.

I have not found a sports bra to tame my monsters, LOL :) Heck, I barely find bras in general....

@All...your comments had me laughing and snickering throughout the day yesterday. I wasn't feeling well later in the afternoon so I apologize for not getting back to say how much I appreciate each and everyone of your comments until now.

You all totally rock!

Oh--next Friday I'll be hitting Target for a new workout bra! :-)

I've read somewhere that sports bras just do not last long--no matter what the brand. Unfortunately, they just need to be replaced regularly. The only thing to really help extend their lives, which you probably already do, is hang them to dry. DO NOT put them in the dryer; the heat weakens the stretchy stuff. ;)

This is the number one reason I would love to have a reduction some day! I buy bras at titlenine.com they have a barbel system that rates the amount of support and i've found some really great bras.

Wow, thanks for the information, Banteringblonde! I had a breast reduction years ago but they grew again when I started gaining weight. *SIGH*.

Hey there. You were a comment or two ahead of me on SITS this morning and I thought I'd drop by for a quick read. I saw this post about sports bras and immediately felt like I had found the support group (pardon the pun) I'd been looking my whole life for. I've been running for a little over a year (thanks to 5 kids in 4+ years, I had to do something). I've discovered I get a better SF (Stability Factor) with a racer-back bra. My current is a Champion. I love it. Got it on sale at Sports Authority. $30? Totally worth the investment. Got me through my first 1/2 marathon without a single chaff! (That's my issue...the straps of bad bras take the skin right off my shoulders).

Have a great Monday. I'm sure I'll be back!

Hi, I just found your blog and must say its amazing!!! Thanks so much for writing a blog about something real people go through. So anyway a tip for sports bras that I have found is, if you just wear them over your normal bra (a crappier one works best for the whole sweating thing) you get an amazing ammount of support by wearing both its like you dont even have any boobs at all :)

Moms Fighting Fat July 25, 2009 8:55 AM

Aw, Mia, thank you!

LOL, I appreciate your very "supportive" tip, great idea. :-)
