Visit the Past to Achieve a Healthier and Stronger Way of Life.
The view of our dentist Van Nuys CA is that good health is the most valued commodity after getting a ton of cash…or so it seems. All of us want to be healthy and live lengthy lives but we don’t seem to want to have to work hard for it or have to watch the food we eat. Many of us want to consume whatever we want and then have a few pills to set things right. Unfortunately, it doesn’t work that way.
Human beings evolved to roam the plains or, at least, the pavements. We were not made for an inactive lifestyle by sitting on the couch or being tied to a cubicle. If we want to remain healthy, we must exercise at least three times a week for thirty minutes, and eat a nutritious, varied diet. While dietary supplements can help us get the necessary vitamins that we might be lacking from our diet, they aren’t a cure-all. Humankind evolved on a diet of berries, roots, vegetables, fish and then meat. The primitive man’s diet was very different from our diet today. There was no McDonalds or Twinkies in those days, which means the primitives were eating a great deal better than how people are eating in present times.
The arrival of agriculture meant that more people could be sustained wheat and corn produced from the land. This habit continues to the present where we’re eating a sizable volume of processed starch along with other very high carbohydrate foods which are low in nutrients. They provide energy, however, not much else, so we don’t need a lot of energy since we sit on the couch rather than hunting prey or running from predators and rival clans. This means that a lot of the energy potential we consume with our food is not utilized, but is transformed into fat instead. Increasing levels of carbohydrates in our diets, together with saturated fats, has led to the current obesity epidemic as well as resulting in conditions such as diabetes and cardiovascular disease that could have been prevented.
We should take a cue from our forefathers and implement a healthier diet by cutting back on refined carbohydrates and saturated fats, as these are classified as the worst type of foods for the well-being of our body systems. When they are combined in foods like pork pies and pastries or junk food like cheese burgers and fried chicken, they should include a health warning!
The dentist Van Nuys CA has an appropriate understanding of good nutrition and, like most physicians, will agree that our diet today is less than satisfactory in the United States. We should try to be more informed with regards to a nutritious diet and do something to correct our own where necessary. It can be hard when we’re too busy to find time to cook well-balanced meals, but it is worth the effort, and there are lots of modern recipes using fresh ingredients which don’t take too much time to prepare. If you’re not getting at least five servings a day of fresh fruit and vegetables then you should perhaps think about taking nutritional vitamin supplements in order to make up the deficit.
If you want advice on exercise regimens or vitamin supplements, you’ll want to ask your physician and your dentist during your medical and dental consulting sessions as they know your health background and will be able to advise you properly on what measures you need to take to maintain optimal health and wellness.
